Hello Nikki, I want to tell you about a problem that I have. I’m in college, and I’m usually very well-groomed. During cold days, it does not really matter what I wear, I always look good. But on hot days or even some normal days, no matter how neat and perfect that I look, I always look like I was in a sauna, my makeup runs a little and my hair looks horrible. I drink a lot of water and no matter what, I look sweaty as if I had hugged an American futbol player after a game. Please help me, give me some advice to look good during those days.
Hello, Anto! I’m not a dermatologist so I don’t really give any targeted beauty advice here. However, it might be good to make sure that you’re not suffering from hyperhidrosis — the name for excessive sweating — first. If you sweat a lot on your palms and feet, or when you’re very stressed, there might be a chance that you are indeed suffering from it. Again, I’m not a medical professional but if you want to find out why you’re sweating too much, do consult a specialist for your peace of mind.
Meanwhile, I can tell you that high humidity is the likely culprit for all the mini-waterfall phenomena we go through. Not exactly a good look on women, but hey, you’re drinking water, which is a good thing. Better to sweat a lot than to look pale and faint away due to dehydration. Since we can’t ask Mother Nature to adjust (and humans are the likely culprit), it’s really just up to us to find workarounds for this problem which shouldn’t be that tough!
Check Your Fabrics and Fit
Dressing for winter is one thing, dressing for high temperatures is another. Check your closet first, Anto, and look at the labels of your clothing. While a lot of clothing these days is made with synthetic fabrics, natural fabrics are undoubtedly better to help you keep cool. Clothes made of pure cotton and linen are ideal in order to allow your skin to breathe. However, most natural fabrics wrinkle easily, especially linen, so there’s a little more upkeep involved. But for me, it’s a good payoff.

Another thing to watch out for is the fit of your clothing. Avoid baggy and oversized clothes. Instead, choose clothes that have a relaxed fit or drape well without clinging to your body. The same goes for your bottoms. Wearing skinny jeans or leggings when you sweat a lot may result in more skin problems. The skin is the largest organ in our bodies and yes, it needs to breathe!
Accessorize and Camouflage
Use accessories like hats, scarves, and hair accessories to minimize the impact. If your hair is long, why not tie it into a ponytail, twist into a bun or use cute hair clips? You can also wear caps as a great statement (and hide horrible hair days). YesStyle has lots of cute and colorful ones to suit your fancy!

The Right Skin Care Products
What kind of skin care and makeup do you use, Anto? While I’m not a dermatologist, perhaps changing your skin care and makeup will help prevent your makeup from melting. Start with the right sunscreens, many of which are now resistant to sweat and sebum. Don’t forget to apply on your body, too! I carry tissues and oil-control film packs in my bag all the time for some lightning dabbing. YesStyle also has underarm sweat sheets and cooling sprays that might help minimize your sweating.
With makeup, a primer definitely helps, not just on your face but also for your eyelids. If you’re using mascara and eyeliner, switch to waterproof versions. For foundation and powder, sometimes it’s not as easy as simply switching to matte versions. It’s best to find out what your skin type is (dry, normal, oily, combination) so you’ll know which products will be suitable and effective.

Finally, learn to breathe deeply and pace yourself. I find that stress and anxiety fuels my sweaty moments so calming myself down lets my body and mind settle. Mindfulness over matter, Anto, and you will win your confidence back!
P.S. If you’re sending a question, please don’t forget to include any helpful information about your body type or shape, your tastes or personality. You can include a selfie (link only please) or a photo of your clothes (which I will never publish without pre-approval). Thank you!
